Kristy

Kristy Marie D’Amelio is the owner and director of Dream Dance Studio.

Kristy started her dance career at the young age of 3 and quickly excelled in all dance subjects.  At the age of 7 she was dancing in advanced classes with girls three times her age.  She began competing at the age of seven and walked away with high honors each and every time.  At the age of ten it was also discovered that Kristy could sing.  She began singing at local sports functions and singing, dancing and acting in community theater.  At the age of 12 Kristy was asked to sing the National Anthem for the New York Knicks.  For seven straight years she was a well know name in Madison Square Garden singing for NBA regular season and playoff games as well as WNBA and College level basketball games.  She also sang in Continental Airlines Arena and Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall 3 years in a row for the NJ State Wrestling Tournaments.  When Kristy was 21 she was asked to dance with the New York Knicks City Dancer’s but declined to pursue her “Dream.”

Kristy attended Montclair State University with a major in Human Ecology/Family and Child Studies and N-8 Teacher Education Certification.  While at Montclair, Kristy auditioned and was accepted into their dance program.  Kristy pursued her dance career by taking several dance classes and workshops at the University.   While in her junior year at Montclair, at the young age of 21, Kristy had an opportunity to pursue her dream of opening her own dance studio and could not pass it by!  She left Montclair for one year to get her “Dream” up and running.  Thus the name Dream Dance Studio fell into play.  After her first very successful year and 150 students, Kristy went back to Montclair as a full-time student to finish her degree while running a full-time business.  Kristy graduated that year with honors, Magna Cum Laude.  While at Montclair Kristy was on the Dean’s List every semester, in Kappa Omicron Nu National Honor’s Society, Golden Key National Honor’s Society, a part of the NJEA and obtained and graduated with a 4.0 GPA.

Fifteen years later and more than 500 students, Kristy has proven that she and her staff have what it takes to educate your children in the area of dance.  Kristy feels in order to keep choreography fresh and exciting for herself and her students, she must still take classes and workshops every year in all areas of dance.  For the past two years Kristy as well as her staff has participated in the “Pulse” workshop sponsored by NYC’s Broadway Dance Center.  Kristy has taken master classes from Shane Sparks, Laurie Ann Gibson, Brian Friedman, Cris Judd, Dave Scott and Wade Robson to name a few.  All choreographers are world renowned and can be seen each year on the popular dance show “So You Think You Can Dance.”  Kristy has also attended the “Dance Teacher Magazine” Summer Intensive as well as taking classes at STEPS on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center in NYC.

For the past seven years Kristy has taken hundreds of her students to National Competitions and has never walked away with less than Gold.  Her hip-hop choreography is what she is well known for and has won her high honors as well as specialty and choreography awards.  Kristy has choreographed for the Hopatcong High School Varsity Cheerleading Competition Team which placed third at Nationals.  Kristy has conducted successful hip-hop workshops for Gifted and Talented students of Morris/Sussex Counties.  From 2004-2006, she conducted hip-hop workshops at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship Learning Carnival for children from 15 school districts in Morris County.  Kristy has accomplished a lot at a young age but her greatest accomplishments are her students, without them her dream would be just that…XOXO
